Jose Carioca by ElectricDawgy Jose Carioca by ElectricDawgy
I decided not to add a background, just because I didn't feel like it. :) It's been a long while since I submitted anything new. And I'm anxiously awaiting "The Three Caballeros" in the mail. So,I've had Jose Carioca on the brain. If any of you know who he is,he's one of Donald Duck's best pals and is huge in Brazil still. Where he's named "Ze Carioca". Eh,I'm not pleased with some aspects of the pic,but I'll let y'all scope it first.

MORE DISNEY ARTS! Must.....PrOdUcE....NooO....motivation or drive.....gah!

*sighs* Hope y'all like. :p Eh,I'm so tired at the moment.

Hi Eric, I am a huge fan of the little green fellow, Zé Carioca. I am a former Carioca, actually, I grew up in Rio (Copacabana) as a kid and am very interested in WW2 history, especially the Brazilian Expeditionary Force. Have a 1945 Dodge WC51, marked as an ambulance of the BEF, nicknamed "Zé Carioca". I'd really appreciate if you could contact off forum. I want to ask you about a bespoke portrait of Zé. Am planning a second Jose Carioca tattoo in April. Already have one on my upper left arm.

Here's a new rendering of Zé, as a Brazilian soldier, on leave in Rio. :-)

Could you make a Jose Carioca for me, to make into a tattoo? I'd like to have José dressed as a Brazilian Expeditionary Force soldier, around late 1944, early 1945.

I love shooting pictures and my camera is my main artistic tool. I do, however, suck, big time, when it comes to drawing pictures....

I'll be going back to Orlando for Easter (March 31-April 13). I got my first Jose C. tattoo there in February this year. The tattoo artist has been working in Orlando for years, and does Disney figures by the dozen. He had not, however, come across the loveable parrot before and spent quite some time on making it perfect.

You can reach me at goran_noren@yahoo.com

Thank you. :) I loved Brazil. I've been to Rio but I'd love to see more one day. Ha ha, I heard another Brazilian tell me that. What would you say a good example would be?

im glad u like Rio ^^ gotta say tho, that Brazil got a lot more u need to see... Rio is a beautiful place but as you travel through the country you'll see how diferent other places can be :)

Ze Carioca is a rly funny character, at least in our comic books (I dont believe they can be found anywhere else other than here..) but Brazilians are hard workers, and we dont waste all our days drinking "cachaça" and listenning to Bossa Nova.

we can be so kind. and smart. all of people I met during my exchange year in Texas dont even take me as a real person. it's weird how people around the world can judge us just because we are located in South America.

I love Walt Disney, but Ze Carioca wasnt a fair character... he is like Carmen Miranda u know? pretty, and Im honored to have the mas a symbol... but they are not real.

gosh that was a long reply lol I hope that's ok... :)

Good picture. :) I like the shadow-and-light effect and how 3-D this looks. You made Jose cute; his outfit suit is nicely drawn, and you gave him a respectable sort of air. His expression is nice, and I like his eyes. The feathers around his ankles are good (you succeeded in making them feathery), and his umbrella is nice. The Brazil-thing was a nice touch.

I like this. I do.

God bless.

I have always, ALWAYS loved Jose Carioca (and Panchito)! All your 'Ze' drawings are GORGEOUS!!!! Yep, I discovered Brazil actually has a comic about him (which I'm insanely coveting!!! ). I had all but forgotten him over the years, but thanks to unearthing a video of SALUDOS AMIGOS and watching it, I fell in love with Ze Carioca all over again. In fact, I have a journal entry about it entitled "Te Amo, Jose y Panchito!". :)

I'm so glad the search engine is working again, or else I wouldn't have discovered all these lovely drawings. And don't be discouraged by any negative reviews---I love Ze enough for everybody in this place! :D

YW. :) Yep, and it's a pity, too, because Ze is such a delightful little guy! Though he seems to have gotten just a tad more respect than some of the latest Disney characters, because he's still among the Disney 'classics'. Oh, when I think of all the Joe Carioca collectibles I passed up over the years, I could KICK myself! =P

They sort of 'revived' him back in the 80s when the album "Mickey Mouse Disco" came out. There's a song on there called "Welcome to Rio" and it's about Jose Carioca! They even had a little montage cartoon with that when they ran "The Black Hole" on cable. (You'd think they'd include that on one of the Three Caballeros or Saludos Amigos DVDs.)

Also, there was another time they had a story with him on "Wonderful World of Disney" (the REAL one, not those Saturday-night movie specials with that title). Like a dummy I didn't tape it. :frustrated: Ah, well...now that Roy Disney is back at the helm, maybe us die-hard Disney fans should get together and talk him into bringing back 'Vault Disney' at least once a week. :)

I actually made a Ze drawing a few days ago, my first ever. I'll scan it as soon as I'm able. :)

GREMIO RECREATIVO ESCOLAS DO SAMBA Unidos da Tijuca.

G.R.E.S. Unidos da Tijuca is a samba school.

Maybe he can play the Tamborim (Not Tamborine) A small hand-held drum with a four pronged beater.

While he is playing, he can wear a carnaval costume or just wear the school colors. (Blue and Yellow)

I will be very appreciative of the gesture. In return I will do a commission for you.

Good Luck to us in Carnaval 2005! Febuary 6, 2005! The day Unidos da Tijuca will rock the earth!

Chegou Unidos da Tijuca!

Gah what can we do ^_^
We just really hate him...imagine:

Someone from, I dunno, Canada, creates a character that simbolize your country, USA.
Would you like the fact that someone else, not an american, created something for your country to me recognized?I mean, someone from outside, who couldn´t possibly really know what´s like to live there, and mostly, what is to be an american. An american symbol, should be created by an american, not by a canadian.See my point? ^_^
That´s why we were a bit pissed off. =D

I was meaning to comment on this after I added it to my favorites.

I love this drawing, Jose was my favorite Disney character as a kid and still is! You drew him very well here. I just recently ordered the Caballeros DVD online and I have Jose on the brain too. Now seeing this drawing, I’ll have to draw him myself soon!

I was going to make a Disney club thedisneyclub and I was going to write invitations on people's pages and I came across yours, and saw the link to the other Disney Club, and I saw that it was already a club so i didn't go through with mine. But out of all of it's club members you truly seem like you like Disney the most, as for The Three Caballeros, that is seriously in my top 5 movies, in fact, I've bought the record from the 40s's 3 times on Ebay, and each freaking time it came to my house broken, and I'm dying for the song Os quin dins de yaya, if that's how you spell it, but I'm afraid it'll never go into CD form. Anyway, gosh I'm rambling, great job on this.. :)

Yeah,it sucks. I'm assuming it will never see the light of day,CD-wise,because the music is 40's fashioned. I have the main theme downloaded but that's about it.

And thanks for the comment. :)

I've written to Disney about it, but what is little old me going to do....the best thing I did to make up for it was record the song from the movie on my tv to a cassette tape, it's crappy, but it's satisfying I suppose. Thanks for the watch :)
